ESS X5 50i/X6 50i ESS E-Flash Performance ECU software is a result of extensive testing and exact calibration of ECU parameters to allow considerable performance gains on an otherwise stock car. The ESS N63 X5 5.0 performance software is developed and tested in extreme heat in the Arizona desert as well as extreme cold temperatures in Scandinavia. Typical gains are in the 85-95whp range. ESS E-Flash also includes full engine diagnostic functionality and code clearing capabilities.
Catless and HFC option is not available for customers from California.
When ordering this product you will receive 1 ESS E-Flash OBD2 programming system which will VIN lock to your car. This system can be used to program between stock and tuned, and it can also be used to load custom files/race fuel files/updates received from ESS over email.

Very easy to install and turn around time was very quick/same day. Before this tune I was disappointed in the performance of the X5, it felt kind of slow honestly. This tune has really woken the engine up, pulls very hard, I actually got a little scared when I laid into it in 2nd gear! I come from a tuned E46 M3 and don't miss it one bit. Pretty sure this thing would smoke it now!
Installation was simple & easy to follow. Mod file turn around time from ESS was super quick. Mod file upload initially triggered a few error codes (as expected) which all easily cleared after several ignition restarts & using diagnostic/clear error code tools provided in software. After clearing - no error codes have retriggered & back to normal. Wait... you wanted to hear about performance.... My X5 was transformed into a beast.. Immediate and very noticeable increase in HP. I have yet to dyno the change but yes - easily 20% HP increase as advertised. Response increase is across all RPM ranges - It just keeps pulling and perfectly compliments the potential the 50i was designed for. The only surprise is after a full week I'm seeing about a 12% increase (yes - improvement) in overall average MPG even after repeatedly tapping into my new found power amusement (18.3 before to 20.7 MPG now)... I commute 76 miles day/60% hwy. I wasn't expecting this mod to pay for itself but it's likely to save me $300/yr + in gas. Again that's for me & my driving style - If you constantly hammer it every chance you get then I wouldn't expect to see MPG gains. The only downsides I have noticed...1) It will take a super-human/physical effort not to grin like a little kid when you step into the power.. 2) If your wife catches you with your laptop reprogramming your ECU - you will have some "creative" explaining to do... 3) You will have to restrain yourself from racing everyone you pull up next to & finally - tire/brake pad wear will increase - no getting away from that... Overall - Huge smiles guaranteed the first time you stomp on the throttle. I especially like the self install, removal & diagnostics capabilities without getting a dealer involved. Awesome product & by far the most significant performance improvement mod for the $$ I have done on any vehicle I have owned to date.. Very Pleased & highly recommended mod. Disclaimer - I'm not an ESS employee or associated with them in any way... Just a pleased consumer of their software.
The installation process was straight forward and the benefits were immediate. While my 0-60 time dropped by 1-1.5 seconds, the real difference is in responsiveness. Any time I hit the gas I think "wow, that's pretty cool."
I can't address long term reliability, but right now I'm quite happy with this upgrade/purchase.
By far the easiest significant horsepower increase I have ever installed. I received my tuner cable and instructions a day early which was awesome. Set up was really very easy. Simply follow the step by step instructions and within an hour you will have everything needed to send back to ESS. I received my .mod file (this is the file you will use in the programming phase of the tune) in less than half a business day. Install was even easier. My 2011 BMW X6 50i went through this process in about 20 minutes. Now just to let you know your car may make some weird sounds (rear suspension compressor was triggered) and several messages will display on the center console however this appears to be normal with this process. Also a cel light will stay lit after the first few starts, this will go away after 5 engine starts (this also was the case on my SRT8 300C after a tune). I took it for a drive and man what a difference. Power delivery is actually smoother than stock with the biggest difference in the midrange (my X6 weighs 5200 lbs and needs this kind of power delivery). Fuel economy appears to be slightly better (provided you keep a light right foot). My vehicle has about 70,000 miles and even so appears to be holding up well. Perhaps BMW left a lot on the table in regards to HP, ESS found it while retaining the original BMW manners. Hats off to AJ for getting back to me right away and with his tuning prowess. Go for it you won't regret it!.
